What it is

You do not need to learn Chinese to travel here. But knowing how to say "not spicy", read a price and thank the noodle lady changes the trip completely.

This is a practical crash course: numbers and prices, ordering food, taxis and directions, and the polite words that open doors. Then the fun part — a handful of Changsha dialect phrases that locals will not expect from a visitor.

Highlights

  • Numbers, prices and the hand signs for them
  • Ordering food — including the all-important spice levels
  • Taxi, metro and "where is…?"
  • Changsha-hua: yào de (要得, "sounds good!"), bà de mán (霸得蛮, the Changsha spirit) and more
  • A pocket phrase card to take with you

How the time goes

  1. Tones in five minutes (just enough to be understood).
  2. Numbers, money, bargaining — and when not to.
  3. Food: ordering, spice, "no coriander, please".
  4. Getting around: taxi, metro, directions.
  5. Changsha-hua for fun, and a role-play to finish.

Included

  • Hosting in English
